1

Find out how much money you have

Check your bank account and write down your current balance, cash on hand, your next payday, and how much that paycheck should be. Use the actual numbers — do not guess.
2

List every bill due before your next payday

Write down each bill, its amount, and its due date — rent, electricity, phone, car payment, and minimum credit-card payments. Add them up so you know exactly what must be paid before money runs out.
3

Protect your basic needs first

Pay necessities in this order: housing, food, utilities, medicine, transportation to work, insurance, and minimum debt payments. Optional shopping, entertainment, and takeout wait until these needs are covered.
4

Create a payday budget

Plan each paycheck instead of only a monthly budget. Use the formula: Paycheck − bills − food − transportation − savings = spending money. Do this before spending any of the paycheck.Try it with your numbers
5

Set a weekly spending limit

Divide your spending money by the number of weeks until your next payday. If you have $200 for two weeks, your limit is $100 per week. When that week's money is gone, stop spending until the next week.Try it with your numbers
6

Stop three money leaks

Review the last 30 days of transactions. Look for unused subscriptions, takeout and delivery fees, impulse shopping, bank fees, and convenience-store runs. Cancel or reduce at least three expenses today.
7

Save your first $100

Move $10, $20, or $25 to a separate savings account on payday — not at the end of the pay period. After $100, work toward $500, $1,000, then one month of essential expenses. Use this money only for unexpected necessary expenses.
8

Get current on overdue bills

List overdue accounts and call each company early. Ask to change the due date, set up a payment plan, remove late fees, or apply for a hardship program. Do not ignore overdue bills — calling early gives you more options.
9

Build a small buffer in your checking

First goal: leave $50 untouched in your checking account. Then grow it to $100, then $250. This buffer helps prevent overdraft fees and keeps small surprises from ruining your budget.
10

Choose one debt to pay off

Keep making minimum payments on every debt, and put extra toward one at a time. Start with the smallest balance for a quick win, or the highest interest rate to save more money. When one debt is paid, add its old payment to the next.
11

Increase your income

Pick one realistic way to earn more: extra hours, selling unused items, cleaning homes, babysitting, pet sitting, delivering food, or freelancing online. Use the extra money for overdue bills, emergency savings, or debt — not additional spending.
12

Repeat the plan every payday

On each payday: check your balance, list bills due before the next payday, pay for basic needs, transfer money to savings, set your weekly spending limit, and put extra toward one financial goal.
